Report: Rajon Rondo and Doc Rivers nearly fought once

Just once? That's the most surprising thing to me.

So if you care about such things, here's a report about some strife between Doc Rivers and Rajon Rondo.

Rajon Rondo and Doc Rivers nearly had a fight after Rondo cursed out coach

It isn’t just that he doesn’t want to be a part of a rebuilding situation; it is because he has an intense dislike for point guard Rajon Rondo. A source close to the Celtics tells Chris Sheridan of SheridanHoops.com that Rondo droopped an F-bomb on Rivers in the locker room during a team meeting, and Rivers went after Rondo and tried to fight him before the fracas was broken up.

Some thoughts here.

  • I could totally see this happening. In fact, I'd be surprised if something like this only happened once. That's the nature of Rondo and the rest of the guys on this team. Like it or not, he's a fiery kind of guy and they've always had family-style fights in the locker room. But at the end of the day there's love and affection for each other. At least reportedly.
  • He also said just weeks ago he loved Doc and didn't want to play for any other coach. So I'm not sure I buy the angle that this is why Doc wants to leave. I can't see Doc having an "intense dislike" for anyone that works hard. I could see it with Mark Blount, but not Rajon Rondo. But I could be wrong. You never know.
  • Not sure what anyone has to gain by leaking this now but someone seems to think this gives someone leverage somewhere. I'm beyond trying to figure out who though.

Next story please.
