NBA Trade Rumor: Brooklyn Nets call Celtics about Kevin Garnett

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Nets have been interested in Garnett in the past but now he may be more available than he has in the past.

There's blood in the water and the sharks are starting to circle. Everyone, and I mean everyone, knows that the Celtics are focused on rebuilding now. So look for rumors to come fast and furious in the next few days. The latest is the most unshocking news that the Nets are interested in Kevin Garnett.

Nets GM Billy King inquires about Celtic Kevin Garnett's desire to head to Brooklyn - NY Daily News

Multiple sources told the Daily News that the Nets GM inquired about Kevin Garnett’s desire to join Deron Williams in Brooklyn, but King didn't get an answer while uncertainty surrounds the Celtics. Garnett, 37, has a no-trade clause in his contract, which he vowed not to waive last season. But circumstances changed dramatically with the Celtics following a first-round playoff loss to the Knicks, with GM Danny Ainge committing to rebuilding and Doc Rivers bolting to the Clippers.

Now that Ainge is contractually blocked from trading Garnett to the Clippers, he'll have to look other places that KG would like to go that would make sense for both teams and also be acceptable to KG.

The Nets could be a contender with what KG could add to their roster and makeup. They might be a good match in a trade as well, provided they are willing to give up a first rounder for his services. His contract matches up nicely with Kris Humphries' expiring contract. So no long term commitments would be needed and the Celtics could net a draft pick for the future.

Again, this is far from being "trade discussions" or whatever you want to call it. There will be more stories like this in the next few days. But this is at least food for thought.
