Going Back In Time..

I can't get this type of situation out of my head. This isn't technically a rumor or coming from another source. Just some thinking that is very similar to what happened years ago to the Celtics.

To get right to the point, remember back before the 2008 season. The Celtics had tried getting KG to the Celtics but turned them down. I do remember that their was no reason at the time for why he said no. Just no. Stay with me for a minute. Then later on, the Celtics had mentioned if they made a certain move, they Could land KG. End result, the got KG and Ray Allen in blockbuster trades.

Its now 5 years later, and it seems the Celtics are in the exact same position all over again. Keep in mind that the pieces they built around before was Paul Pierce. Now I believe that person is Rajon Rondo. You can say what you want about how similar or different they are as players. But after I hear constantly about Rondo being part of the rebuild or "retool". That would be the category where Rondo fits in with Pierce's situation 5 years ago.

We all have heard the minor rumors of Rondo reaching out to Josh Smith so that he could make his way to Boston. I've also heard that Ainge tried to reach out to Dwight Howard's agent to see if he'd be interested in a sign-in-trade. He did however say no.

So far are you seeing the coincidence? Howard being in the same category as KG. Then, possibly behind closed doors, maybe if the Celtics feel like they can land Smith, they would assume Howard's decision could change just like KG's.

Obviously I know the Celtics, as of right now, have too many players on the roster right now. But that's right now. Once July 12th comes, that's when the fun begins.

In my opinion, the Celtics aren't "tanking", just retooling. Or creating the next generation's BIG3 with what they have. I'll be the first to admit that I have absolutely no idea what kind of trades would have to be done to get those players. Sadly, that's why we have "trader Danny".

Lastly, I had just checked this on another site, it looks like Howard is trying to reach out to Smith too. Take for what its worth, or don't take it in at all. Its your choice. I will take it as all of them, including Rondo, wanting to play together. I look forward to next week in so many ways. I can only hope and pray that Ainge can get a deal like Rondo, Smith, and Howard playing together for the Celtics. It could be the dream of all dreams and will might never happen. After seeing all the similarities from 5 years ago and now, I kind of like the C's chances.
