Celtics trade Fab Melo to Memphis for Donte Greene

We got a glimpse of Fab Melo and his off-season workouts, but it looks like the fruits of his labor will be plucked by the Grizzlies:

The Griz are working to acquire center Fab Melo from the Boston Celtics for the rights to Donte Greene, according to a source with knowledge of the deal. Memphis would bolster its frontcourt depth, adding a third center to the roster behind starter Marc Gasol and backup Kosta Koufos.

According to ShamSports, Donte Greene's contract is non-guaranteed, so it looks like a salary dump for Danny to get Boston under the luxury tax.  Turkey, can we get Colton Iverson back?  Shavlik Randolph, just kidding.  There might be a spot for you after all.

Green is set to earn $1 million this season. If Boston didn't envision a spot for the 6-foot-11 forward on its roster, the team could waive him (either immediately or after training camp) and could dip below the luxury tax line (Boston is roughly $0.7 million over the $71.8 million line at the moment). Boston currently has 15 guaranteed contracts for a commitment of roughly $72.5 million.

The story is still developing.  We'll keep you posted.

Update: the trade is official.
