It sounds like James Posey isn't the only former Celtics player that is in consideration for the last assistant coaching position. Old friend Walter McCarty has been in talks as well.
Former Celtic Walter McCarty has met w brad Stevens twice about joining his staff in some capacity.

Since his final season with the Phoenix Suns, in 2005-06, McCarty has served as an assistant coach with the Louisville Cardinals and Indiana Pacers. He's also slated to coach an ABA expansion team, the North Shore Tides, next season, at least according to the team's website.
Obviously the idea here is to add a guy to the staff that can very directly relate to the young players and act as more of a mentor than strictly a coach. And maybe the idea is to connect with a certain not so young anymore player that is under a lot of pressure to show that he's more mature now.
NBA source familiar with #celtics say team desperately needs another asst coach who can bond with Rondo, someone he can relate to and trust

You'll have to excuse me if I chuckle a little bit at the "desperately" comment. If Rondo really has that much of a handful, then maybe I'm wrong and the guy really should be shipped out of town on the next Acela Express. I just don't happen to believe that things are quite as bad as all that. But time will tell, and I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with having a popular former player in town to bond and share experiences with the players.
McCarty was gone before Rondo arrived in Boston, but they are both Kentucky guys and it is very possible that they've crossed paths in the past.
Regardless of that connection, I'd love to see either Posey or McCarty in town.
