Brad Stevens from the official press release:
"I am really excited about our assistant coaching staff that we have here in Boston," said Stevens. In this group, we have successfully assembled a passionate, intelligent, hard-working, and humble staff with a diverse set of experiences in coaching. We are all eager to get to work with this year's team, and take great pride in being a part of the Boston Celtics organization."
If the roster doesn't represent a franchise in rebuild mode, the coaching staff certainly does. There's of course head coach Brad Stevens at the helm who is widely considered one of the best young minds in basketball today and he's already gotten off to a great start by intelligently surrounding himself with a heady group of assistants. Jay Larranaga was considered a very serious candidate for the Sixers job because of his success in player development. Ron Adams is an NBA veteran and formerly Tom Thibodeau's top #2 in Chicago. Micah Shrewsberry gives Stevens some consistency and familiarity after spending four seasons with him at Butler. Walter McCarty, a Heinsohn favorite, played eight seasons with the Celtics, but has spent time on coaching staffs with the Pacers and the University of Louisville.
It's a talented group. Think X-Men with clipboards. I'm cross-referencing movies here, but all I can hear right now is Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction saying, "check out the big brain on Brad..."
