First a quick story: I looked at my calendar today and saw that Media Day was on August 30th and I got really excited for a minute or two. Then reality set in and I realized that I had entered that on the wrong day in my Google calendar. It isn't until September 30th. Yup, that's the offseason.
Anyway, that gives you some perspective of how early MarShon Brooks is showing up to Waltham to start his own training camp. He knows there's a lot of shooting guards on the roster and he wants to carve out his own bit of playing time, and I applaud him for it.
Brooks planned to return to New York this weekend to pack up his belongings, but said he'd be back here early next week and essentially begin preparations for the 2013-14 season by engaging in informal workouts at Boston's facility in advance of training camp in late September. "I’m one of the younger guys on the team, I just want to be around," said Brooks. "Just to have a relationship with the players that are here and to know exactly what coach Brad Stevens wants." Brooks said Stevens has kept in touch with him throughout the offseason and monitored his workouts from afar.
He's got a lot of offensive talent, so if he can learn enough playing time by learning Brad Stevens' system early, he could be a real asset to the team.
I think Jared Sullinger has been around all summer and I think Olynyk has at least been in and out of the area this summer. Hopefully some more of the young guys (and some of the older ones) can all get together and start building up that chemistry.
Man, I can't wait for camp to get started. We've just got
one week, err, a little over a month to go!
