It is very early yet, but I have to say that I'm already enjoying the Vitor era in Boston. This guy seems to be one part Perkins, one part Nate Robinson, with maybe a sprinkling of Fab Melo. Or said another way, he's big and tough but he seems to have a fun and goofy personality that I think will endear him to fans. I mean, his best (of many) nickname is El Hombre Indestructable after all.
He was asked in a recent interview if he thought he'd have good chemistry with Rondo and here's what he had to say.
Second interview with Faverani: Replies to fans
VF: Well, I have not had the opportunity to work with him because he is recovering from his knee injury. I had a first contact, not with the head coach but with his top assistant, who is training me and was with Rondo this week. Every time they talk about Rondo is amazing, spotting his pick and roll play. I love setting screens, you can ask my former teammates because they stopped me last year because it was almost hurting them, so if he is the player I believe he is, we will get along very well. He loves sharing the ball and has incredible passing skills, and I love setting screens to free him, so that he can decide to finish with a shot or a pass. It is up to him.
I love that bit about the screens. Let's just make sure he's putting the extra hard screens on the opposing teams and not our own guys right now, ok? Also, it is nice to hear (but not surprising) that Rondo is apparently hanging out with top assistant Ron Adams. All good things. Can't wait for preseason.
