The Celtics have 14 guaranteed contracts and the non-guaranteed contract of Donte Greene at the moment. If there are no trades, then there might still be an opportunity for a training camp invite to win a spot on the roster provided their contract is low enough to keep the Celtics under the Luxury Tax.
We already knew about Kammron Taylor and DeShawn Sims but in recent days it was revealed that we'll also be seeing Chris Babb from Iowa State and Damen Bell-Holter from Oral Roberts.
You might be asking, "What's the big deal?" Well, it isn't really a big deal (slow news day... err, month) but it might be interesting. Some of these guys might be stashed in Maine after training camp.
One thing to keep in mind with invites is that some could wind up with the Maine Red Claws of the D-League. In recent seasons, Boston has shuffled camp cuts -- those that are often willing to shun more lucrative overseas offers to chase the NBA dream stateside -- to Maine for a chance to develop in Boston's affiliated system. Last season, the Celtics moved Micah Downs (and late-camp signee Brian Cusworth) to Maine. During the 2010-11 season, Boston shuffled camp invites Stephane Lasme, Jamar Smith, and Tiny Gallon to the Red Claws.
Speaking of which, I wonder if any of those former Red Claws might find their way to Boston for camp.
P.S. I miss that guy Tiny Gallon. I don't think I ever saw him play, but that name is hilarious.
