Chris Johnson earns another 10 days

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

Hard work pays off.

Having expired Sunday evening (midnight) Chris Johnson is in the market for another 10-day, or long-term, contract. But according to A. Sherrod Blakely of Comcast SportsNet New England, Johnson may not be without a team for long:

Over the course of his inaugural deal, Johnson averaged a solid 10 points on .483 shooting from the field, as well as 3.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per contest. But what makes Johnson so appealing in the eyes of the Celtics is his ability and willingness to do all the little things that don't necessarily show up in the box score.

Johnson can thank both his production and the injuries to Avery Bradley and Jerryd Bayless for his second 10-day contract, a deal that he is expected to sign this Tuesday.

Note: A player can only sign two 10-day contracts with the same team before he is either signed long-term or let go. If the Celtics decide that Johnson isn't in their long-term plans but need help, they would be unable to sign Johnson to another 10-day contract according to CBA rules. Instead, they would have to find themselves another player.
