The Biggest Question Still

With the Celtics finally making a move with trading Courtney Lee for Jarryd Bayless everyone is rushing to answer questions like "Are the Celtics a buyer or seller this year?" or "What does this mean for the Celtics in the 2014 Draft?" or "Which free agents will the Celtics try to target?" And while those are all excellent questions, none of them can really be answered until the ultimate question is addressed;

Exactly how healthy is Rajon Rondo and can he play at his former skill level?

When Danny made the moves to bring in Ray Allen and KG, he had a known quantity in hand with Paul Pierce to build around. Right now, the Celtics don't have that centerpiece to build around. Sure, we all hope that Rondo returns at full speed and continues to build upon his all-star resume... but no one knows for certain. Until that variable is better defined, the Celtics will continue to stockpile assets and build greater salary flexibility.

So are the Celtics buyers or sellers? Yes to both; Danny will look to acquire disproportionate value whereever he can. As to anything more definite, keep this in mind:

We might be needing to draft a new point guard in June.
