Larry Sanders: The Missing Link?

Larry Sanders had a bad year in 2013-2014, but he showed enough promise a year before to get a nice extension from the Bucks. The 6-11 center from VCU is hoping to get back on track this season. If he does, his $44 million dollar price tag over four years is very reasonable.

The guys over at Brew Hoop have a good read on Sanders and his situation here:

Brad Stevens has built a good defensive team in Boston, but they need a shot blocker. Larry Sanders could be that guy, and with Brandon Bass in his last year of his contract; there could be room in the roation for Sanders. This would move Tyler Zeller to the bench for good in all likelihood, but it's always good to have depth.

So how would a Rajon Rondo and Vitor Faverani for Larry Sanders and Branden Knight trade work? I know, I'm already trying to trade Rondo and it's just opening night.

The Bucks are clearly building around Jabari Parker and the Greek Freak. John Henson is a long center that fits in well with them and they also have Zaza Pachulia and Ersan Ilyasova up front. Sanders would be missed, but they have big men on the team.

Think what Rondo could do for the Bucks, specifically Parker and Antetokounmpo. Rondo could create, create, create, and he would have maybe the longest team in the NBA running with him.

Why wouldn't Boston want him to do that for the Celtics? They drafted Marcus Smart and they also have Avery Bradley and Evan Turner. The Celtics have plenty of guards and it is harder to find a good center than it is a good point guard.

We always overvalue Rondo and we see talk about needing two first round picks for him. Sanders is signed long term for good value, while the Bucks would have to consider Rondo a rental at this point. He may like it there and sign long term with them, but he could just as easy look to sign with a contender within the Bucks' division like Indiana, Cleveland (doubtful), or even Chicago.

For Boston, you get the long term contract of Sanders in his (hopefully) prime and you make your team one of the very best on defense in the NBA. Also, how many more draft picks does Danny Ainge need? He could lose ROndo for nothing, and getting a 6-11 center with a 7-6 wingspan is hardly a bad consolation prize.

This trade could help both teams. There's also a chance that it could blow up in both team's face. However, I think the risk is worth the reward.
