Game story:
BOSTON – The Olynyk train just keeps rolling through the dregs of the NBA. The Celtics beat the Orlando Magic 109-92 Wednesday night through a balanced effort that was highlighted by the novel concept of consistent scoring from the Great Gonzagan.
The second-year big has emerged from a miserable slump to rediscover his form that would make Andrea Bargnani jealous, all the while maintaining a hair length that would make Andrea Pirlo jealous.
Although he did not thoroughly slaughter the competition with a 30-point performance as he did in Philadelphia Monday night, Olynyk’s persistence and surprising dominance stood out amongst the various solid performances by Celtics brass.
The seemingly timid body language is dissipating while the deadly shooting stroke is returning for the position-less Olynyk, who has taken a good while to reestablish his role in this Celtics rotation after losing his starting job to Tyler Zeller.
While he didn’t get his beloved triple-double, Rajon Rondo came pretty close, scoring 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and 15 assists. Rondo was in such control against the Magic’s young backcourt that he threw nearly as many wraparound dribbles as field goals Wednesday.
Brandon Bass’ 18 points on the night were part of a transition explosion that keyed a big fourth quarter run., as the Celtics won the fourth 31-19.
"We’ve done a pretty good job in this month, after the Atlanta game, of playing in the fourth quarter," Brad Stevens said. "I thought we played pretty well after the middle of the second quarter and on. I was excited about it because it was kind of steady. That was a good thing for our team. Hopefully we can build off of it."
