The Trade that puts all 2013-14 Celtic trades into perspective

Charlotte and Golden State are looking for some help at the PF spot. Well, Boston has some PFs that they are looking to shop. So what about this:

BOS: Ben Gordon, Maresse Speights, Harrison Barnes
CHA: Kris Humphries
GSW: Brandon Bass, 2014 Blazers 1st, 2014 76ers 1st (protected)

GSW Rationale: They want some front-court help and they like Bass. Speights has been a bust for them, which is unfortunate because he was given a 3 year contract which is now tough to move for something more productive. They like Barnes, but don’t need him for this playoff push. They replace Speights with something better and get picks for Barnes to replace the pick they lost this year in the salary dump with Utah.

Charlotte Rationale: Charlotte wants front-court help as well and Humphries could be very productive with Big Al or off the bench. No commitment for them after this year, but they get Hump's bird rights for resigning him to a reasonable contract after this year (they’ve pursued him before). The price is small. Gordon is not productive for them and the Blazers pick does not have a huge amount of value.

Boston Rationale: Get worse now, get better later. Bass is a great final piece for a contender, but he is adding the wrong kind value to our current team. We take on Speights salary which is not ideal, but at least its only 3M per year. The gem in the deal is Harrison Barnes. The Humphries-Gordon swap gives the Celtics one of the picks to lure Barnes away from GSW. Celtics may need to include a second first round pick for the recent lottery pick in Barnes, so hopefully the 76ers 1st gets it done.

End of the day, Celtics swap 16M in long term salary & expirings (Bass, Lee, Crawford, Brooks, Hump) for 11M in long term salary, expirings, & Harrison Barnes which tees them up for a Jeff Green trade this summer!
