Last year we tried to make a deal with the Clippers for PP, KG, that would have resulted in us getting bledsoe, jordan, butler and a number one pick (doc) and maybe another pick. My idea was to then trade Rondo to the Suns for dragic, gortat and and one of their number one picks(or another filler player).
So, we fast forward to the present. We now have docs pick, a bunch of picks in the next three years, and a pretty hideous basketball team (which might result in a good pick, but probably not the guys we REALLY need). However, we receive alot more picks than my idea would net... And our cap flexibility is much better than under my scenario.
If the clippers /suns deals would have went down, we would have a few number one picks this year, and a lineup of:
dragic, bledsoe, green, sully, gortat....with bench of pressey, Lee, butler, bass, and jordan (maybe we would have moved butler or bass for money issues). No wallace contract, gortat deal done at end of year, might not have drafted KO ( may have gone with giannis, ouch). I would imagine, even with Bledsoe down for awhile, we would be at least a top 5 team in the east. We would have similar expiring contracts ( gortat, bass as opposed to Hump....maybe butler too?)
So, hypothetically, would we have been better off doing those deals...or are we in better shape now ( notwithstanding the agony of watching this team). Remember, Im not interested in debating if money was exactly right, or if the suns would have done the trade...(which i think they would have). Just accept the premise and tell me if you think we are better off now.
Should make for some interesting debate.
