Chris Mannix: Rajon Rondo's future with Boston Celtics a bit cloudy

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated was on Celtics Beat on CLNS Radio, and one of the fans in their Facebook group asked about Rajon Rondo's future with the team.

A bunch of guests Celtics Beat has had on before, such as Sean Deveney and Jay King, all seemed pretty assured Rondo will re-sign in Boston. But Mannix on the show said "the jury is still out."

From what he knows, he doesn't think it's a certainty the Celtics will even roster a max contract extension in 2015 - and he knows the Knicks will. That's the biggie.

Then he stated a bit of the obvious. A lot can happen in these next 15 months. Rondo can be frustrated with continued losing. The Celtics could pick a player like a Marcus Smart in the draft, providing that's where they fall in the lottery - playing a redundant position to Rondo. The Celtics can't get Rondo another guy, etc.

He also had a few other things to say such as:

*Brad Stevens has done a tremendous job in Boston. A testament to his coaching the team has played as hard as they have into late March despite management gutting the team throughout the year.
*Doesn't believe draft class is overrated. Sees stars in the top 5-6. Sees Wiggins as a Paul George/Tracy McGrady type
*Talked to multiple GMs about poor performances by top draft prospects in early rounds of NCAA tournament. All said that their performances will NOT hurt their draft stock.
*Doesn't believe there will be fireworks this summer. Boston also will not bring in an impact guy via free agency.
*Loves Kelly Olynyk.

Here's a link to the show. They also talked to Brian Robb of Celtics Hub and CBS Boston as well. He said that he isn't entirely sure the Celtics would commit max dollars to Rondo, echoing some sentiments of Mannix:
