Celtics loss on the back end of games with the Bulls couple with a Hawks win officially eliminates us from the playoffs. Eight games to go and now we scoreboard watch to see what happens with the Jazz, Lakers and even the Magic.
My thoughts have completely turned to the post season. I am far from convinced that Danny is keeping either first round picks. He zigs when others zag. How crushed would you be if he trades out of the five slot? I kind of expect it. I'm always amazed when fans get psyched about players after the ten spot. If you look at the history of the draft maybe five players per year make a serious impact in the league and those guys are usually drafted top ten. There are always exceptions, but as a general rule guys after ten end up as the second guy off the bench. They average 15 minutes per night and are good for maybe 8 points. Forgive me for not getting excited.
To me this is a four or five player draft. I think Smart and Randle will be busts. If Danny really doesn't love this draft class he may be able to get great value for trading one or both of these picks.
i think the only way we take a player and keep him is if he's top four.
What's value for the fifth pick? Would you take a first round pick next season and a decent starter from a perennial loser like Cleveland or Milwaukee for the fifth pick? Danny might.
One thing for certain is that there will be more action this offseason for the Celtics than in recent memory.
