It's becoming clear that Kevin Love is not going to re-sign with Minnesota. Contenders looking for that final piece of their championship puzzle or just for that cornerstone marquis player are looking over their trade chips and mulling over what it will take to land the Timberwolves superstar.
Of course the Celtics will offer a package of draft picks and players to match Love's 14.6 million dollar incoming salary. Bass, Sullinger, and Bogans and 3 first round draft picks would be an attractive haul for the Minnesota superstar.
However, if the Celtics lose out on the Kevin Love sweepstakes we might be able to take advantage of opposing teams GMs trying to gather assets and clear cap space to make their own run. I don't think the Timberwolves are going to want Asik and Lin as the centerpieces for a Kevin Love deal. But the Celtics might take them off their hands for the TPE and some waivable contracts. The Knicks might want to take a run at Love, but do you think the Wolves want Ray Felton and JR Smith? But we could take them and some of their other misfit toys off their hands for waivable contracts and help them clear some cap space.
When teams are positioning themselves to make a deal they need to unload assets that other teams might consider trash. However, one team's trash can be another team's treasure. #JordanCrawford
