Bob Ryan: Time to "move on from [Jared Sullinger]"

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

This week on the Celtics Beat Podcast Bob Ryan joins the show and discusses the Boston Celtics most polarizing player, Jared Sullinger.

Ryan got into what intrigues him the most about Sullinger, but also talks about what is going to keep him from being a great player.

The guy intrigues me he does one thing," Ryan said "he has a knack for rebounding, he’s a natural born rebounder."

Ryan talked about it not being what he can do, it’s about how long he can do it. Does he have the ability to play for 25 or 30 minutes a night. "He does things you can’t teach, and you can’t teach rebounding instinct.

Ryan talked about Sullinger needing to have the same realization and transformation as one former Celtic, Paul Silas in order to become great.

"It will be his loss more than the team's loss if he doesn’t want to get with the program," Ryan said "he has to look in the mirror and decide if he wants to be an NBA player drawing an NBA paycheck or a great player.

Ultimately, Bob Ryan said he wants to move on from Sullinger and says the depth at the position makes him an expendable player. Also he said it's Sullinger's fault for his shortcomings not the coaching staffs.

"I’m holding Sullinger accountable. I in no way hold the coaching staff accountable for him," Ryan said "He ought to be better. I really want to move on from him. Don’t blame the coaches for Sullinger. I want to move on."

Ryan goes into a whole lot more on the show. Listen to the entire interview on the podcast. He also talks about how the roster construction should be more of a concern.
