I am a Georgetown fan and I've watched Josh Smith play all year. He has some significant flaws but also some significant strengths. He would likely only cost a 2nd round pick.
Let's start with the strengths:
Size: This is the big one. At 350 pounds, Smith has a significant size advantage on many centers. In Georgetowns loss to Utah in the NCAA tournament, Smith was simply able to bully Jakob Poetl who will likely be a first round pick, maybe a lottery pick. Smith was able to back down Poetl almost every time, he commanded a double team from Utah almost every time and sometimes he would just score right through the double team. Georgetown may have won if they fed him the ball more.
Footwork:For a man his size, Smith has good footwork. He also has a decent array of post moves. He is very good at scoring with his back to the basket
Rebounding:Some of this is due to his size, but Smith is a good rebounder as well. He is good at boxing out his man.
Weaknesses:Defense:His size on offense comes at a cost. He is not that lengthy and not really a rim protector.
Foul trouble:Smith is almost always in foul trouble, it is extremely infuriating. At Georgetown he picked up 2 fouls early in the first half many, many times.
Verdict:Obviously Smith is not the rim protector we need but he's a 6'10 350 pound center with good footwork who was able to bully a very good NBA prospect. In the 2nd round, whnot take a shot on him?
