Andrew Bogut would fit on this team

The Dallas Mavericks are 2-9, and are likely looking to rebuild. ESPN's Tim MacMahon: "Every veteran should be shopped. Dallas should be especially aggressive exploring the market for Andrew Bogut, a big man who has proved to be valuable for a contender but is wasted playing his contract season on a bad team."

Bogut is 31 years old, 7' 0'', and his contract (around 12 million) expires after this season. In just 24.7 minutes this season, he is averaging 3.8 points, 1.9 assists, and 10.1 rebounds per game.

Bogut has always been a strong defender, rebounder, passer, and screen setter, which combined with his size makes him an excellent fit next to Al Horford. While Horford has insisted he is okay with playing the 4 or 5, it seems likely that he would be more comfortable matching up against opposing 4's. Slotting Bogut into the starting lineup (when everyone is healthy again) would yield the following:

PG Thomas

SG Bradley

SF Crowder

PF Horford

C Bogut

We could probably acquire Bogut for a reasonable price. I'd be willing to part with one of Young, Mickey, Jackson, and one of the non-Nets picks (likely a second rounder), as long as we can make the contracts work. An article I read suggested Zeller, who we cannot trade until January, and seems like an odd choice for a rebuilding team (is he really going to get any better at this point?)

Would Bogut make us a championship contender? No, but he actually might be the difference between winning and losing in the first round, and maybe even the second round.
