Take the next leap

While it's no secret that the Boston Celtics are one of the East's more promising teams, it's also no secret that they're grouped with a few other teams as distant seconds to the Cavs in the Eastern conference. They did nothing on draft night to separate themselves with that bunched up group that includes the Pacers, Pistons, Raptors, Heat and Hornets, among other teams. Danny Ainge had about 75 picks in his arsenal and instead of turning the picks into proven veterans, we have a project on our hand.

"No J" Aylen Brown was a reach at pick number 3. Period. Most mocks and experts had him going between 6 and 9. Shooting is an area that the Celtics lack in, so they decide to draft a slightly better Gerald Green. Fantastic. You take the best player everytime and it's clear Dunn, Hield and Murray were better prospects. Heck, I would've taken the scary upside of Bender over Brown as well.

Even though I'm upset at the Brown pick, I'm more upset at the fact Danny Cringe can't do anything with valuable assets. He's very overrated as a GM, in my opinion. Celtics have been hoping for an impact player for a few years now, and the talent has been on the market, yet Danny does his best sloth impression. We are the Celtics for crying out loud. The most tradition in nba history. 17 banners. Have an all star PG, a top 5 coach, unselfish role players and a ton of picks and you can't get that final piece? Literally one piece away from contending with the Cavs, yet he fails again. It's tough getting my hopes up every off season only to see my hopes drop faster than Bill Clinton's trousers. Until the Celtics get a star player, you can expect more first round exists. Danny, we don't want that, so do SOMETHING. Thanks.
