Predicting injury "Prone-ness"

1

There was a mini discussion in one of the Front Page threads over the last week about if a player (Avery Bradley I believe) could be labeled as "Injury prone" and if that should be taken into account when thinking about re-signing that player. This article attempts to show how different types of injury can be more or less predictive of future injury. It's about Ellsbury and Baseball but I think the assumptions are transferable to all sports.

Celtics Beat w/ Randy Auerbach + Jay King 3/22/14

+

The best Boston Celtics podcast you'll find anywhere is still going strong. The team may continue to struggle, although that win over Miami on Wednesday was nice, but Celtics Beat is not. Celtics Beat is packed once again for 60 minutes with hosts Rich Conte and Larry H. Russell. LHR had a chat with Randy Auerbach earlier, and suffice to say - like her father Red, she's got a few things on her mind and she's not afraid to voice her opinions. LeBron James? Kobe Bryant? The Los Angeles Lakers? Phil Jackson to the New York Knicks? What are her thoughts on those entities? And how is she handling this Celtics season, and what are her feelings on the future outlook of the franchise? LHR will discuss all of this with Randy. There's more: Jay King of Mass Live will hop on to discuss how the team has been handling all these losses since the calendar flipped to the New Year. They may be saying all the right things, but ... And it'd be interesting to find out what Rajon Rondo really feels about now as well as his future in Boston. Lastly, Rich and LHR go Around the NBA in 5. Tune in this Saturday at 2 PM ET/11 AM PT to Celtics Beat. Heard exclusively on CLNS Radio.

Celtics Beat w/ David Wesley + Sean Deveney 3/15/14

+

Think there's not plenty to talk about regarding the Boston Celtics? Think again. Rich Conte and Dr. Andre Snellings of Rotowire host an absolute loaded edition of Celtics Beat on The Ides of March. First, they'll speak to David Wesley, currently serving as the New Orleans Pelicans color commentator on FOX Sports New Orleans. David was a 14 year NBA veteran, and former Celtic. Rich, Dr. Snellings, and David will discuss the Pelicans and Celtics rebuilding efforts, Anthony Davis' place amongst the NBA's best, his years in Boston and Rick Pitino's decision to not re-sign him, and yes, tanking. With David being a member of the infamous 1997 Celtics squad, he'd seem to be an expert on the issue. There's more: Sean Deveney, National NBA writer for Sporting News will hop on. Sean is one of the most plugged-in NBA journalists, particularly with the Celtics. He'll let the audience know how the Celtics organization feels about this season, where the rebuilding stands, and also Rajon Rondo. What's his future with the team? Also, Sean recently broke a story regarding Kobe Bryant urging the Lakers to fire coach Mike D'Antoni at seasons end. Rich, Dre, and Sean will discuss that, Phil Jackson to the New York Knicks, and much more. And yes, Rich and Dre still have time to go Around the NBA in 5!

Celtics Beat w/ Brent Barry 3/8/14

+

20 games to go for the Boston Celtics. Can't wait, can you? Neither can hosts Ty Ray and Larry H. Russell. Ty and LHR will talk about LHR's most recent column featured on CLNS Radio: Would the Boston Celtics be better off not winning the lottery? Should they be bold this summer and field a competitive team ASAP? Ty and LHR discuss. LHR will have an extended conversation with NBA TV's Brent Barry. Brent was the 1996 NBA Slam Dunk Champion, a 14 year NBA veteran, and a two time champion with the San Antonio Spurs. Brent currently serves as a studio analyst for NBA TV's NBA Gametime and he dropped by talk about some suggestions he'd make to new NBA commissioner Adam Silver, tanking in the NBA, the MVP race, LeBron James' place in history, and of course -- the Celtics.

Celtics Beat w/ Quinn Buckner 3/1/14

March 1st is finally here. The light is at the end of the tunnel. Spring is just around the corner, as is the end of one of the tougher Boston Celtics seasons for fans to endure in recent memory. The latest is a contreversy surrounding the team's star point guard Rajon Rondo. Rondo skipped traveling with the team last weekend in Sacramento so he could celebrate his birthday in Los Angeles. What to make of what has now been dubbed "BirthdayGate." Hosts Matt Rury and Larry H. Russell will share their thoughts. And hey, the Celtics got a win this week. But things won't get easier as a brutal March awaits. The Indiana Pacers are in town tonight, and Matt and LHR will pass it off to Rich Conte who had a chat with Pacers color commentator, Quinn Buckner. Quinn works for Fox Sports Indiana, was a 10 year NBA veteran, and won an NBA Championship in 1984 as a member of the Boston Celtics. Quinn will share his insights on the Pacers, the development of Paul George and Lance Stephenson, Larry Bird, Danny Ainge, Brad Stevens, and more. Matt and LHR will also go around the NBA in 5.

SI On Second Round picks over the last decade

+

I found this paragraph interesting. Indeed, of the 76 players who have made an All-Star team between 2005 and 2014, only eight were second-round picks (Ginobili, Millsap, Gasol, Carlos Boozer, Mo Williams, Rashard Lewis, Gilbert Arenas and Mehmet Okur). One other All-Star (Ben Wallace) went undrafted. Who made up the rest of the All-Stars? A jaw-dropping 53 lottery picks and 14 non-lottery first-round selections. To underline this point, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant has more All-Star Game selections over the last decade (10) than all currently-active second-round picks combined (Ginobili, Millsap, Gasol, Boozer, Williams and Lewis combine for 9). So when I read about questions of the worth of high draft picks, I'll keep this in mind....though not all High draft picks pan out, the odds are, a player who makes a difference was one.

Celtics Beat w/ Kyle Draper 2/22/14

The 2014 NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone. Rich Conte and Rotowire's Dr. Andre Snellings will have you covered as they recap Thursday's rather uneventful day in the NBA and for the Boston Celtics. Rich and Dr. Snellings will be joined by Comcast Sports Net New England's Kyle Draper. Kyle had an exclusive interview with Danny Ainge on Comcast Sports Net in the hours following the trade deadline. He'll stop by to talk about why the Celtics didn't do anything on Thursday with Rich and Andre, as well as look ahead to the final stretch run of the season and a potential big summer for the Boston Celtics. Oh, and if you aren't aware. The Celtics are currently out West on a little rodeo. Rich and Dre will also go Around the NBA in 5. Yes, they'll be able to cram all that's happening around the NBA during one of its biggest weeks in just five minutes.
