Kevin Freaking McHale

I am a huge Kevin McHale fan. Back when I was writing for my old site Charles Barkley inspired me with the following statement, "Kevin McHale is the best player I ever played against." At the time I rushed to YouTube and was devastated to find a 10 second clip, a certain hook shot from 1987 that I refuse to link to and "New School Meets Ol' Skool", which I have posted below. Sadly "New School Meets Ol' Skool" never achieved the cult status that it deserves. Yet watching it for the first time in months I was immediately taken back to my original observations:

  1. As I said at the time, we need this to spread like herpes (yes I'm still tired of the wildfire analogy) so that we get a new catch phrase, "I gotta go party and stuff."
  2. The kid who utters the party line looks at his wrist to check the time. The video quality is such that it's hard to tell, but I do not believe that he is wearing a watch.
  3. Robert Bickerstaff (McHale) wears a shirt with #55 on the back and #15 on the front. As we all know, McHale wore #32.
  4. Every time Bickerstaff shoots they cut to a ball going in the basket without showing how it got there. That's understandable. But I'm not sure how I feel about a few of the shots where the ball entered the basket from an angle that was drastically different from where he shot it. Oh wait I love it.
  5. I enjoyed the fake dunk.
  6. The trash talking is so bad it's good. "Did I break your ankle G?" Yes you did.

Now that I've plagiarized myself enough, it is time to get to the real point of this post. Kevin McHale finally has some decent representation on YouTube. It is not enough but it is getting better.

Check out the Rambis close line:

If you thought that was awesome check out the next clip for McHale in the post, the origin of the "Black Hole" nickname and McHale referencing the time he "collared Rambis". I haven't been this happy with YouTube since...ever.

As a side note the comments sections of YouTube clips may be the lowest form of communication on the Internet. That's probably a bit harsh and if I really thought about it I could come up with worse places. But check them out. They're bad.
