From the Globe today:
Labor Day usually conjures images of one last trip to the beach or a lazy afternoon tending the grill. But Pierce has other ideas. He hopes to host several teammates for a getaway at his new Las Vegas-area offseason home. Banks, Ricky Davis, Raef LaFrentz, and Kendrick Perkins were among those on the invite list. "I want to fly them all out here to the house for a weekend for Labor Day," said Pierce. "I really feel like I need to sit down and talk with Ricky and the guys on the team I really feel I can make an impact on like him, Marcus Banks, Raef LaFrentz," said Pierce. "I feel we need to all come together and find out what's going to make this team better and establish roles for guys. That's what I think coach [Jim] O'Brien was good at. Since I've been in the league, nobody has coached like he did, even Rick Pitino and coach [John] Carroll. OB's presence on the court and how he commanded respect and how he put everybody in roles, I respected that. I feel like I learned from that."
As much as I hated O'Brien's gameplan of 3's, I did respect that players had so much respect for him. Here's hoping that Doc can bring that same quality to the table. One has to wonder though, since the Magic gave up on him last year.
