Celtics Notes
Ultimately one regular season game does not mean anything in the NBA. However, it would be tremendous for the Celtics to come out and take this one. The TD Banknorth Garden should be rocking as Boston makes its return to national television after a one-year absence.
I'm a huge Kendrick Perkins fan even if I quietly worry about his bouts with injuries and fouls. And I tend to agree with those who think he is primed to put up some numbers that people around the country are not expecting. And Perk is a much better passer than people realize. But he is by no means an elite center. That's why tonight is so important. It would mean a lot to see Perk have his way against an average NBA center.
I know it's opening night and the Celtics organization is looking to explode back on the scene. But let's not have the game get lost in the Celtics dancers, Lucky the mascot and every other gimmick under the sun.
I'm under the understanding that Gilbert Arenas is not quite at 100% yet. Although if 38 points, 8 boards and 3 assists is not 100%, well I wish I were Mr. Arenas. Regardless it will be important for Rajon Rondo to give Agent 0 hell. I'm looking for Rondo to chase, hassle and harass Arenas all over the court.
Wizards Notes
Antawn Jamison is one of those rare guys that swing back and forth between overrated and underrated. It is amazing to watch. Every now and then I look at his stats and I'm blown away. And his stats are always nice. You just have to remember that there are things he does really well while other aspects of his game are not as impressive. Defense comes to mind with the latter.
Caron Butler is really good. If this is news to you then you don't follow the NBA closely, don't play fantasy basketball or work for the Lakers organization. Seriously can we mock them at least a bit more for that Kwame Brown trade? And yes Butler loves straws.
DeShawn Stevenson is one Wizard I will be watching closely. People forget that he was an up and comer around the same time as Tracy McGrady, Kobe Bryant, Carlos Boozer, Tyson Chandler, Lamar Odom and Corey Maggete. Things have not exactly always gone as planned for Stevenson. But he seems to be finding a home in Washington, due in part to some unfortunate contract decisions on his part.
The combination of Dan Steinberg's D.C. Sports Bog, the always entertaining Gilbert Arenas blog, the wacky antics of the Wizards and of course Green Bandwagon favorite Bullets Forever make the Wizards a blast to follow.
I've been having a bit of fun with Arenas this week. So I thought I'd make up a story that you could read on his blog. Here goes nothing. AND DON'T FORGET THIS IS FAKE.
So the other day I woke up at 2 A.M. I knew I was not getting back to sleep. That's just the way I am. So I drove down to the gym, let myself in and just started shooting. I made 237 of 400 shots. And I would have done better but I was craving Krispy Kreme. I couldn't get it off my mind. I finally gave up and headed to the nearest one but it was closed. I couldn't wait another minute, never mind an hour and a half before it opened. So I threw a rock through the drive through window, broke it and then climbed in. Then I realized that they make their donuts fresh and I would have to make them. Now DeShawn started out in Utah right out of high school. Talk about a guy who had NOTHING to do. So he worked at a Krispy Kreme for a while just to pass the time. I called him up and let his phone ring 45 times in a row. Finally he picked up. He had to come down because he owed me for the time we bet who could drink more Gatorade in 10 minutes. I won because I didn't drink anything for 2 days and was so thirsty I was on the brink of death. So DeShawn begrudgingly came down and we made some donuts. But right when I was biting into the first one the police showed up. They recognized me and I gave them a few freebies. But then I decided to have some fun. I said I had rushed into the Krispy Kreme to stop a robber (DeShawn) after I saw him break a window and climb in. DeShawn flipped out but they arrested him. It's his fault nobody knows who he is. I ate another donut and went home.
Let's go Celtics!
