Say Hello to James Posey

Mark Murphy is reporting that the C's signed James Posey. To be honest I'm not sure how I feel about this move. He's still in his prime and is known for his defensive abilities. As Murphy noted,

"His modest scoring numbers aside, Posey is considered a high-energy player who is particularly adept that shutting down opposing small forwards and big guards. At the age of 30, he is not only considered to be a player in his prime, but also one of the NBA's most highly regarded role players - in short, the perfect player to compliment Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen."

Can it ever hurt to have a defensive minded role player? At the same time I was hoping for someone who was a better dribbler. And by that I mean I was hoping Sam Cassel would eventually get bought out and sign with the C's. That still could happen. But in the meantime the C's are awfully thin at the point guard position. And no I don't consider Eddie House a point guard. However, this is not the type of move the C's could have made a year ago. Or even two months ago. That in itself is encouraging.

Oh and apparently Posey hates the Chicago Bulls. Watch him take out Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng and Tyrus Thomas (end of the second clip). There's no doubt that those are dirty plays. And I don't want to celebrate that. However, last year's Celtics squad was not tough. No one ever stepped up and sent a message that it was not a team to be messed with. Posey could fill that role. And yes there is a part of me that watches the YouTube clips below and thinks, "Wow this guy could have played in the 80s." That is never a bad thing. And yes the Bulls had their way with Boston last year. It's going to be a good season.

Overall I'm on board with the Posey signing but want another point guard, which means someone has to get cut or traded.
