Update: It is on the team's website now.
"Mikki's length, energy, skill and experience, along with his enthusiasm to come to Boston, will be a great boost for us," said Danny Ainge
Moore will wear #7.
Mikki Moore, the free agent center who has been pursued by a handful of teams since he was waived by the Sacramento Kings Thursday, has decided to sign with the Celtics, according to his agent, Mark Bartelstein.
Moore, 33, cleared waivers at 10 a.m. this morning. The 7-footer averaged 3.5 points and 3.3 rebounds for the Kings in 46 games this season.
Moore is generally regarded as a quick and willing defensive player who plays with a lot of enthusiasm, but who can sometimes be overpowered by bigger players. Offensively, he is limited, but he moves well without the ball and typically shoots a high percentage.
From the Herald article quoted earlier this morning:
Word is the Celts might pursue another big man if one of higher profile becomes available, but they do not expect that to happen before March 1 (the deadline for a player to be waived so he can be eligible for a playoff roster).
There has been talk lately that Moore might be a better fit than Smith. He is a bit taller, and some prominent people believe he has more range and is a better finisher. The C’s also expect Moore’s energetic style will work better with Garnett.
Also, here's a nice article on him on the Kings website about Black History Month.
