According to a league source, Davis, as a restricted free agent, will carry a mid-level exception (approximately $5.8 million) price tag into the marketplace.
Murphy goes on to say that the Celtics can offer him about the same amount of money without using the MLE if they are willing to spend the money. It sounds like some teams might be willing to pay him.
Detroit and Memphis - two teams with cap space - both are expected to court Davis over the next month.
Davis has lit up Detroit in the past and they are trying to rebuild on the fly. Memphis, on the other hand, could offer him a starting position on a young and growing team.
Regardless, I don't expect Davis to be giving us a hometown discount and I expect the Celtics will allow the market to set the price before they make any further offers.
