Celtics Stuff Live: Jon Jennings & Marc Spears

SHEEEEEEED!

Ready to do that every time he jacks a three? That’s going to take some time for this Celtics fan, but then again I’m still not sure I realize Kevin Garnett is a Celtic. Of course the Rasheed Wallace acquisition is the biggest news since Celtics Stuff Live’s last show on Draft Night, but the performances in Summer League and the on again/off again Grant Hill to Boston train also made more than a peep along the wires. CSL’s first guest for this evening’s show will play an integral role in developing some of the talents on the Summer League roster in the coming years, and while Jon Jennings has made many visits to the show in the past this was the first since it was announced that his Maine Red Claws will serve as the NBA Developmental League affiliate for the Celtics. Jennings talked with Jon and Justin about the incredible progress that the Red Claws have made in terms of ticket sales and his take on some of the talents who the Celtics may send to Portland next fall. Jennings confirmed that Austin Ainge, son of Danny Ainge, is a finalist for the Red Claws head coaching position and lauded the younger Ainge’s grasp of statistical analysis and some of the newer trends in coaching. Jennings noted that the team will make a decision on a new head coach within a week.

The second guest for this evening’s show was a bit of a going away party for the Boston Globe’s Marc Spears. Spears is headed back home to the Bay Area and will go to work for Yahoo Sports as a general NBA writer. To the uninitiated, Yahoo Sports is the #1 sports website in the world, so this is certainly a move up from the questionable future of the Boston Globe. After a little cake and ice cream, Marc sat down to discuss the addition of Sheed and the make up of the bench, particularly behind Paul Pierce. As noted in his column earlier today, Spears is supportive of seeing what JR Giddens and Bill Walker can provide after a year of apprenticeship with stints in the D League.

For those of you interested in chatting with us or following our inane ramblings, Jon and Justin are both on Twitter and Facebook. Jon can be found on Twitter at csl_duke, while Justin’s handle is simply JustinPoulin. Tweet ya later.
