My propensity to write for this blog has decreased to the point that I check my name at the bottom once a week just to see if I am still listed as an author. Itʼs not that I have less passion for the Celtics or this site. I have morphed into mainly becoming a POster child for the "Iʼll have more energy tomorrow crowd" in terms of my contributions to this
site. (Article on the POster Children of this blog is coming!)
I thought I might just crank out an article or two just to keep my name at the bottom of the front page. In my own weird way I wanted to throw out an observation on how this blog has changed from my lonely observation point perched up in the Truffula Tree years ago watching as the forest of trees was cut down by Jeff. Hopefully some of you guys know the Dr Suess story called The Lorax - and that would be me in this story.
Over the years the Celticsblog landscape has changed. As the bulldozers came to cut down the trees I thought Jeff was ruining the peaceful blog to build a Celtics Blog casino and I hated it. I was the Lorax and Jeff was killing my trees!!! Eventually I got used to it and in many respects have grown to like it. Why? Mainly because he has left me one Truffula tree of my own to sit in wearing my brown Bar-Ba-Loot suit eating my Truffula fruits (they are green I think). Let me refresh your memory what it used to be like around here.
Way back in the days when the grass was still green
and the pond was still wet
and the clouds were still clean
and the song of the Swomee-Swans rand out into space...
one morning, I came to this glorious place.
And I first saw the trees!
The Truffula Trees!
The bright-colored tufts of the Truffula trees!
Mile after mile in the fresh morning breeze.
And, under the trees, I saw Brown Bar-ba-loots
frisking about in their Bar-ba-loot suits
as they played in the shade and ate Truffula Fruits
Things were simple then. These days around here I drop down out my Truffula tree and spew out a few words/seeds as another "POster Child" on the front page trying to sound insightful or funny (mostly unsuccessful as of late), and generally end up scratching my head at some of the stuff I see posted on this site. I would like to point out that the front page posts on this blog form a perfect bell-shaped curve ranging from the brilliant to the brilliantly insane.
I generally take a nap each day during my extended old man lunch up in my tree. While nodding off I sometimes have some seemingly good ideas about an article I could write for this blog. However, my thumbs immediately start to swell at the thought of all that typing and so I simply wipe off the nap slobber off my shirt and head back to work taking care of the few remaining Truffula Trees.
I do check in on the blog during the day, peering down from my perch to see if El Jeffe (Sir Rants Alot) is still cranking out his myriad of stories and story links. I really used to wonder where/how/when he was able to get all this done. Itʼs been going on for years now so I try not to give it too much thought, although he must not value lunch naps the way he should. Perhaps a 6 foot 5 inch nap rug would help.
I frequently make trips to the restroom (we can discuss in this more detail if you would like) but that is the beginning and the end of any high daily volume of output I have to give. No volume trouble however at the Celticsblog Truffula Tree Casino nation. The stuff just keeps flowing on the front page, the forums, the ads, the posters, the threads, the stories, the polls etc. (cranking out those Thneeds from those Truffula seeds that the people all need!!!
Green17 seems a bit more balanced in his frequency of output of Thneeds. You know, sort as if he has a real job somewhere that requires some level of attention to detail that somehow in turn creates a paycheck. Now that he is a new daddy, I am suspecting his volume will be reduced slightly in direct proportion to dirty diaper changes and midnight feedings.
Roy "Flippin" Hobbs? Good lord man, if digital ink and digital paper were trees you could clear the forest. You and Jeff should try the decaf......Roy reminds me of another story. Roy is the ever-present eye named Sauron in Lord of the Rings...... his contribution to this site is of course invaluable, as is G17ʼs, Jeffʼs and others, but seriously Roy close that big flaming red eye once in awhile and get some "shut eye" (Wow I liked that one). All three of these guys are sincere, hard-working quite talented individuals..... but....to quote one of my favorite lines from a Robert Duvall western: "You guys do more work than you have to, therefore itʼs my obligation to do less"
The volume and scope of progression on this site since 2004 (or whenever it was) is quite astonishing to me. What started out as a simple place with green Truffula fruit to chew on and spit out the seeds and talk (the first chat room) has now turned into a modern day full-fledged Las Vegas casino type blog complete with full flashing neon
advertisements out front of the Celticsblog Casino Truffula Tree Nation located next to Foxwoods. There are back rooms full of forums/poker games. There are slot clubs, Casino type sportsbook activities with football and basketball fantasy leagues going on (no wagering please!), and even a day care forum room apparently for the unattended wayward Celticsblog children.
Of course my initial dream, as this thing grew into full fledged treeless Casino nation was that at least there would be gorgeous cocktail waitresses popping up on my laptop screen wearing short tight Celticsblog T-shirts offering adult drink coupons, and handing out Tommy Points like Keno cards. Unfortunately the closest I got to those cute cocktail waitresses was the ever so brief appearance of the "Evony" girl advertisement where she sexily whispered in my ear "Play Now my Lord" . The Lorax liked her and she could cut down all my trees she wanted. She disappeared however faster than the provocative poster Big John did on this site a few years ago for whispering a few other things on this site.
So in the end itʼs not as bad as I thought it would be all these years later. The Celticsblog Truffula landscape has not been entirely polluted and ruined, and it really did get bigger and better around here. I do miss the old quiet days sometimes. I am however glad to still have a tree to sit in and enjoy the view and spit out some seeds to take root and grow. Thanks for leaving me my own tree G17, Roy and most of all Ranter/Jeff. PO the Lorax is still on duty.
"You're in charge of the last of the Truffula Seeds.
And Truffula Trees are what everyone needs.
Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care.
Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air.
Grow a forest. Protect it from axes that hack.
Then the Lorax and all of his friends may come back."
