CelticsBlog NBA Mock Draft 2011

Hey, everyone else is doing a mock draft, why can't we?  First of all, some guidelines:

  • This is all in good fun.  (For me anyway, you may think this is rubbish)
  • I don't really care about non-Celtics teams and even less about the lottery teams, so I'll skip over them.
  • If we pick the guy I predict, I'll remind you about it weekly for a year.  Otherwise, I'll deny this ever happened.

Picks 1 - 15

To help me narrow down the field, I'll use Chad Ford's draft tiers to eliminate the first 15 picks.  I don't know or care which order they go in or where they go to.  Yes, that includes Jimmer.  (Ok, I'll be watching and it will be somewhat interesting to see where these guys land, but for the purposes of this post, I'm indifferent)

Here are Chad's top 15 (top 4 tiers) in no particular order: Kyrie Irving, Derrick Williams, Enes Kanter, Brandon Knight, Kawhi Leonard, Jonas Valanciunas, Jan Vesely, Kemba Walker, Bismack Biyombo, Alec Burks, Jimmer Fredette, Marcus Morris, Chris Singleton, Klay Thompson, Tristan Thompson

16. Philadelphia

Nikola Vucevic - a 7 footer that can shoot.  Sounds like a Danny kind of guy.  He'll need to work on his Philly attitude to rack up the techs like Sheed though.

17. New York

Marshon Brooks - Chad says the Knicks need defense.  In other news, water is wet.  In still other news, the Knicks don't do logic very well, and they do have a compulsive need to add scorers, so Brooks is the pick.

18. Washington (From Atlanta)

Markieff Morris - Andre Blatche is not the long term answer in Wizardland so they might as well add some talent on the block.

19. Charlotte (From New Orleans via Portland)

Jordan Hamilton - Calling in from the golf course, Michael Jordan makes this pick on a dare from Charles Barkley just because of the kid's first name.

20. Minnesota (From Memphis via Utah)

Josh Selby - I have no confidence at all in Kahn and Selby is my pick for biggest draft bust, so it is a match made in heaven.

21. Portland

Kenneth Faried - Everyone seems to have this guy going to Portland so who am I to argue?

22. Denver

Tyler Honeycutt - Honestly I don't know what to make of this team post-Melo.  They seem to be better all around as a team but what's the upside?  A 2nd round exit?  Honeycutt seems like he'd fit in with the rest of the roster of nice-but-nothing-special players on this team.

23. Houston (From Orlando via Phoenix)

Iman Shumpert - Aaron Brooks is a shooter and this guy is a defender, so there's a certain balance here.  Kind of like feng shui.  (Update: I told you I didn't know other teams - Brooks is not even on the Rockets anymore DOH)

24. Oklahoma City

Kyle Singler - Once again, everyone says the Thunder are high on Singler and who am I to argue.  Apparently they need a poor man's Jeff Green to fill the void left by the trade that shall not be named.

25. Boston

Drum roll please... and the Celtics select... nobody (yet).  They trade the pick for 2 second rounders and pick up either Jeremy Tyler or JaJuan Johnson (or both!) in the early 2nd round.  And of course, whoever gets selected in this spot will become a 12 time All Star and Celtics fans will forever bring up their name as another one that got away.

Note: Don't forget to enter to win a shirt in the Draft Contest.
