This is crazy, insane, and ludicrous all at the same time, but hey, that's what the offseason is for.
I created a good amount of debate yesterday by bringing up the Chris Paul for Rajon Rondo trade idea. Many talked about how it was only a good idea if we could get Dwight Howard next summer (via free agency). Well that all depends on how Dwight is feeling and it makes for a big risk that might not end up paying off (right New Jersey?). So why wait? Why not get them both?
Note: I'm not all that serious about this and no, I'm not a Rondo hater at all. LOVE the guy. Just admitting that there are a few select ways we could upgrade from him. If anything, I'm making the case that if we can't get an absolute home run out of it we couldn't trade him. Anyway, disclaimer aside...
Here's my modest (and insane) trade proposal.
- Celtics get: Dwight Howard, Gilbert Arenas, Chris Paul, and Emeka Okafor
- Hornets get: Rajon Rondo, Jermaine O'Neal, and a signed Glen Davis
- Magic get: Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and a signed Jeff Green (plus maybe a future pick or two)
Why the Celtics do the deal: Danny does it again. Look at this lineup. Chris Paul, Delonte West, Paul Pierce, Emeka Okafor, Dwight Howard with a bench of JaJuan Johnson, Avery Bradley, Gilbert Arenas, E'Twaun Moore, and Gilbert Brown plus any other vet minimum guys we can sign. Sad to see Rondo and 2 of the Big 3 go, but for a chance like this it is worth it.
Why the Magic and Hornets do the deals: Cap flexibility. Both are due to lose their superstar free agents in a year anyway and this way they get to offload some albatross contracts and get some assets in return.
In the words of Bill Simmons, "who says no to that first?"
