Two quick notes on DeMarcus Cousins

In case you haven't read and heard enough about him yet today.

USA TODAY Sports

First, when I was looking back at the year that was, I was reminded that this isn't the first time the Celtics have called the Kings about Cousins. Here's what Mark Murphy reported almost exactly a year ago.

The Celtics, like most teams, have called Sacramento to gauge what it would take to trade for DeMarcus Cousins. The young, disgruntled Kings center has been suspended from the team for his disagreements with coach Paul Westphal.

"It's highly unlikely," a league source said of the Celtics' chances of landing Cousins. "I'm not sure that any team is going to get him. The thing is that everyone knows he's a wreck. They're not going to get what he's worth."

So the Celtics have had their eyes on Cousins for a long time. And if they are "highly interested" then obviously the following things don't matter that much to them (or they feel that they can manage him).

But he's already been suspended three times this season: once on Nov. 9 after a verbal altercation with San Antonio Spurs announcer Sean Elliott, who had said some unflattering things about Cousins during a telecast; once on Dec. 11 for hitting Dallas Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo in the groin; and once last week for "unprofessional behavior and conduct detrimental to the team" following a verbal altercation with Kings head coach Keith Smart.

Just saying, this B-52 bomber comes with a lot of baggage - the explosive kind.
