Congrats To Grande and Max on 1,000 Games!

When I was a youth, I used to listen to Johnny Most on the radio when I couldn't get near a TV. In fact, I sometimes used to mute the TV (especially on National TV broadcasts) and listen to Most call the game. He was the best and he set the bar pretty high.

Fast forward to today and there are thousands of channels and NBA League Pass and mobile devices and any number of ways to watch or follow a game. But still one of the best ways is to turn on the good old fashioned radio and catch Grande and Max call it.

So it is pretty cool that they have reached 1,000 games together and will be honored by the team tonight.

Boston Celtics and WEEI honor Sean Grande and Cedric Maxwell on their 1,000th NBA broadcast together

BOSTON (February 2, 2012) – The Boston Celtics and WEEI will honor its radio play-by-play team Sean Grande and Cedric Maxwell prior to their 1,000th Celtics broadcast tomorrow night at TD Garden. Grande and Max will be presented a plaque by Celtics Managing Partner Steve Pagliuca, Team President Rich Gotham, Entercom Senior Vice President Julie Kahn and Vice President of Programming for WEEI Jason Wolfe to mark the milestone in a pre-game ceremony prior to the team’s home game vs. the New York Knicks.

Sean Grande reflects on a thousand games with Max

"It’s the longest relationship Max and I have ever had, either one of us, so we’re very proud of that," Grande said. "It’s rare. You don’t plan to be with somebody for 1,000 games or whatever it is. Mike [Gorman] and Tommy [Heinsohn] have done something like 1,600 games. When you’re doing games you don’t think like that, the business is so transitional. That’s something that’s unique to the Celtics."

Congrats to Grande and Max. May you have 1,000 more!
