Remember when the Celtics beat the Magic even though they were short a few All Stars? Turns out they got some good inspiration to win that game from Doc.
Doc Rivers told Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett prior to Wednesday night’s win over the Magic that if the Celtics won, they could sit out last night’s game against the Hawks. Enough said, apparently. Pierce came out with 29 points and a career-high 14 assists against Orlando.
I love it. Win now and you get to rest later. He was true to his word as Pierce and KG got another much needed day off. They might get a few more as well.
"We could be giving guys a rest over the next three games," he said before this morning’s shootaround, meaning that next week’s games against the Heat and Bucks in the Garden could feature similarly stripped down lineups.
So get used to seeing the Avery Bradley show folks! I'm enjoying it a lot.
This is like the entire season has been played in reverse. First we had the "late season swoon" at the beginning of the year. Then we had the "early season success" in the 2nd half of the year. Now we're having "preseason" in April. I don't know what that means for the playoffs, but hopefully it is a good thing.
