For anyone that watched the moving documentary on Chris Herren, his story needs no introduction. Last night the Celtics honored Herren as part of the Heroes Among Us program for his work with Project Purple - a substance abuse awareness foundation.

Inspirational night for Herren - BostonHerald.com

As Chris Herren stood at center court of the Garden last night, the ovation rained down from the balcony to the benches of the Celtics [team stats] and Miami Heat. It was a thunderous testament to the powerful way Herren’s story of redemption has touched so many from all walks of life. A star since his days at Durfee High, the New Bedford native’s NBA career was wiped away by substance abuse in 2001. Herren went on to hit the rock bottom of drug addiction, but has made an inspirational turnaround.
