An interesting rumor from Andy Katz today regarding a player that might be a target for the Celtics, though not likely with the 21 or 22 picks.
News and notes from the NBA draft - ESPN
Jared Cunningham has become a coveted player at the back end of the first round to early second. The former Oregon State guard shut down his workouts but was in Atlanta for an interview Tuesday. Atlanta, Charlotte and Golden State have a lot of interest. But so too does Boston and the Celtics even have interest in acquiring an third first-round pick to possibly get Cunningham.
What's the scouting report on Cunningham? Glad you asked.
Green Street " NBA Draft’s Potential Celtics: Oregon State SG Jared Cunningham
Cunningham, who declared for the draft after his junior season, is a phenomenal athlete with a smooth, impressive game. He’s a decent slasher with solid ball-handling skills and uses his leaping ability to finish off highlight-reel plays. There’s potential for him to become a solid spot-up shooter and he also has the tendency to score off tip-ins on offensive rebounds. Cunningham’s defense is impressive. He can shut down both the guard positions and he uses his extremely active hands to jump passes.
Sounds like another Avery Bradley, so either we're trying to corner the market on guys like that or perhaps Cunningham might be a plan-B kind of guy if we have to use Bradley in a trade. He's at least someone to keep an eye on as the first round wraps up and the 2nd round gets under way.
