Micah Downs (Gonzaga Alum) Invited To Celtics Camp

With Dooling out and Darko in, the Celtics roster still has 13 guaranteed contracts and one spot likely reserved for Kris Joseph. That last spot looks like it is going to be held for Dionte Christmas (or maybe Jamar Smith can beat him out) but that won't stop the Celtics from bringing in additional bodies to fill out their camp. Those same guys might also fill out their Maine Red Claws roster later. We already saw the Celtics ink Rob Kurz to a camp contract. Now it sounds like they have added at least one more name.

Micah Downs To Attend Celtics Training Camp - The Slipper Still Fits

We've learned that former Gonzaga Bulldog Micah Downs will attend the Boston Celtics training camp. Downs, who has been on the move throughout Europe following his career at Gonzaga, will be looking to latch on to the Celtics as a versatile swingman. Since graduating form Gonzaga, Downs has played in Croatia, Belgium, and most recently Spain. He averaged 13 points per game a season ago and was given a shot in the summer league with the Dallas Mavericks. While he only saw about 10 minutes per game with the Mavs this summer, his background was enough for the Celtics to throw him an invite. Downs has always been a Zag that projected well in the professional ranks. As a lanky wing, he has the skill set to be a solid role player in the NBA. He can make the open jumper with regularity and defends extremely well. Like many former Zags looking to make it on an NBA roster, Downs has worked on making himself a more complete player while in Europe.

The more the merrier. Camp is coming, giddy-up.
