Celtics officially sign Darko Milicic, Micah Downs, and Rob Kurz

The Celtics have officially announced via press release three signings that we have known about for several days now.

First Darko who is reportedly on a vet minimum contract.

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed free agent forward/center Darko Milicic. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Milicic, a 7'0 center/forward, appeared in 29 games last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves and averaged 4.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 16.3 minutes per game. Milicic tied his career-high with seven blocks against the Dallas Mavericks on January 25. Beginning his 10th season, Milicic recorded a career-high of 8.8 points per game during the 2010-11 season with the Timberwolves and finished 5th in the NBA in blocked shots per game (2.03). The second overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft was a member of the 2004 NBA Championship Detroit Pistons during his rookie season. He has posted career averages of 6.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.31 blocks in 467 career games.

Next are the two guys that got camp-invite (non-guaranteed) contracts

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed free agent forwards Micah Downs and Rob Kurz. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Downs, a 6'8 forward, played last season for Assignia of the Spanish ACB league averaging 11.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 55% from the floor on two-point shots and 35.3% from three-point territory.

Kurz, a 6'9 forward, played last season for CB Murcia in Spain and SLUC Nancy in France. Kurz has previously played in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors during the 2008-09 season where he appeared in 40 games as a rookie. He recorded a career-high of 21 points against Utah on April 11, 2009 when he shot 8-for-14 from the floor and 4-for-7 from three-point territory.

Chances are Downs and Kurz will end up being cut, but there's a good chance they could end up on the Maine Red Claws this year.
