No blockbuster trade planned: the 6 games that saved the Celtics season

New, comments

Danny Ainge says no major changes expected and you can thank the last 6 games for that.

Danny Ainge is going to appear on CSNNE tonight and they were kind enough to show us a preview of the interview.

First of all, he says that he's not looking to make any major moves.

"That doesn't make a lot of sense to radically change the team when you're trying to compete to win it all," Ainge told Dickerson. "We have been and will continue to look to upgrade our team, but I think it's always more unlikely that that happens than likely."

So (provided we can believe him - which isn't a given) it sounds like Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, and obviously Kevin Garnett are safe. At least for now. Things can change quickly in the NBA - for better or for worse.

In the Celtics' case, it was actually for the better most recently. Asked if the team had not gone on a 6 game winning streak if Ainge would have been just as happy with the roster he gave an emphatic "no."

"No, absolutely not," he said. "You have to produce. It's my job to look at the bigger picture. We have to live in the moment and try to win and help our team have success, but at the same time if it's not happening on the court than there has to be changes made, absolutely."

So there you have it. 6 games that won our hearts and saved the season.

Of course, that doesn't mean that Dealer Dan is hanging up his phone, content to ride out the rest of the year. I'm sure he'd trade anyone off the bench and even a couple of starters if he thought he could get help in the form of someone that might be able to stick around past this year and contribute later on as well.

Still lots of time between now and the Feb. 21st trade deadline. The team still has to keep producing and we'll see how other team's change their opinions and positions on who they will and will not trade as the deadline approaches.

Things are a lot rosier than they were a couple weeks ago, but as always, stay tuned.
