Cold Shooting Celtics Fall to Thunder, 91-79

The Celtics did plenty of things well against Oklahoma City but shooting wasn't one of them as the Green's five game winning streak came to an end.

USA TODAY Sports

The Celtics knew they'd be in for a tough test on the road against Western Conference power Oklahoma City on Sunday. They almost passed it.

Down by just three headed into the fourth quarter, the C's went ice cold from the floor in that final frame and saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with a 91-79 loss to the Thunder. The Celts missed their first eight shots of the fourth and 16 of their first 18. Paul Pierce led the Celts with 20 points while Avery Bradley added 12.

The Celts shot over 50 percent in the first half and trailed by just five at the break. But the cold second half caught up to them in the end as they finished a paltry 37.7 percent from the field.

Brandon Bass was a very bright spot for the Celts, grabbing 13 rebounds including five on the offensive glass, and blocking two shots. The Celtics actually won the rebounding battle, 44-41.

Kevin Garnett was just 5-of-19 and suffered through a stretch in which he missed 10 straight shots from early in the second quarter until well into the fourth. Reserves Jeff Green, Jason Terry and Jordan Crawford were 6-of-24 combined as the Celts scored just 34 points after halftime.

The Thunder had an off game on the offensive side of the ball as well, mostly thanks to a typically excellent defensive performance by the C's. League leading scorer Kevin Durant was just 6-of-16 from the field while fellow superstar Russell Westbrook had just 15 and took just 11 shots. Oklahoma managed to get to the line 33 times and made 27 of those attempts,a huge factor in the win.
