The Boston Celtics announced that they have assigned rookie center Vitor Faverani to their D-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws. In the statement the team released, Danny Ainge said that this will be a quick assignment to get Faverani some extra playing time, and he will be back with the team on Sunday.

"This is just a quick assignment to get Vitor some more game action. He'll be back with the Celtics for shootaround tomorrow morning. This is a great option for any Celtics player to get more in-game experience without missing any Celtics activities, and we expect there will be more of this type of assignment for Celtics players during the remainder of the season," said Danny Ainge, Celtics President of Basketball Operations.
Good timing considering I just got done publishing an article asking the Celtics to make a trade to open up playing time for both Faverani and Kelly Olynyk. As Ainge said, Faverani will be able to get more in-game experience in Maine, but still be around the team in Boston.
Vitor Faverani is nicknamed "El Hombre Indestructible" for his ability to block shots and rebound, but the shine has worn off over the course of the season, since the 25-year-old rookie has seen his playing time slip as the year has progressed. On the year, he has played in 35 games, and has averaged 13.4 minutes, 4.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per contest.
