The Boston Celtics announced on Monday that they have waived guard Will Bynum to meet the NBA's requirement of a maximum of 15 players. This move comes after a week in which the Celtics tried to find a suitor to trade for Bynum, but they will instead eat his $2.9 million contract.
With Bynum's release, Boston is still under the luxury tax line, with a total salary of $76.8 million. Tim Frazier, Rodney McGruder, Erik Murphy, Christian Watford, and Jarell Eddie, were also waived as expected. Expect a handful of them to sign on with Boston's D-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.
Boston will begin their season at home on Wednesday night against the Brooklyn Nets. With point guard Rajon Rondo expected to play, they will nearly be at full strength, with only center Vitor Faverani on the mend.
