Brad Stevens: Vitor Faverani may be out until 2015

Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens announced that Vitor Faverani will be out at least into December and possibly even after the new year during his pregame press conference Sunday

BOSTON -- At first glance, Vitor Faverani's short career with the Boston Celtics couldn't get much worse. But Sunday, Brad Stevens informed the media that the Brazilian big man could be out as late as January 2015.

Faverani is recovering from a second surgery this year on a torn left meniscus and was initially anticipated to be out six to eight weeks.

When asked what Faverani's status is, Stevens said, "I don't know to be honest. When he initially had that surgery, Iheard 6-8 weeks just like you did. I've been told its going to go longer than that. Into late December and possibly even the first of the year.

One to never speak out of place, Stevens warned several times that this was his speculation only. "I hate standing up here and acting like I know medically whats going on. But I know he's frustrated and he's working every day and they're working with him."

This is not the first time Faverani has had an unclear timeline for an injury recovery, as Faverani was missing time in February last season due to knee soreness before doctors performed a scope on the knee and discovered a meniscus tear. They then performed surgery in early March and shut him down for the season.

"What i had though was that he would be practicing some time in December, but I don't want to put a timeline on it because I'm speculating now," Stevens said. "So we're hoping that he may be practicing some time in December and hopefully ready to play by the first of the year."

Not much has gone right for Faverani, as he has been frequently dealing with injury and has never appeared to be in shape. With next season unguaranteed, Vitor has one more chance to prove he is worth keeping around with Tyler Zeller before losing the $4.9m due over the next two seasons.
