Rumors are rumors, so take them all for what they are worth, but one of the big unknowns so far has been what the Timberwolves want in return for Kevin Love. If they want picks, we can outbid anyone. If they want established players, not so much. If this report is to be believed, things don't look so good for the Celtics.
Celtics’ offer for Kevin Love not among three best - Sports - The Boston Globe
"They’re not even in the top three," one league source said of the Celtics. Furthermore, those sources again stressed that because Timberwolves president Flip Saunders named himself head coach, he is more directly responsible for wins and losses, making it likely he’d prefer proven players over draft picks in a deal. "They want to win now," said another league source. "They want to be competitive now, with or without Kevin. These draft picks aren’t going to do that. So if they’re going to move Kevin, they’re going to get two or three guys that can help them win now."
Ok then.
I guess I can see why a coach would want to win now, but I'm not sure how realistic or wise that is. If they want to be the 9th or 10th best team in the West again, they can go out and get mediocre players to help their coach/GM "win now." Good luck with that. Or they can call Love's bluff and hold on to him next year. I doubt it, but it is possible I guess (and they'll sell that position as much as they can in the press).
Don't like this report? No worries, another one will be along within hours I'm sure that will totally contradict it.
I don't really know what to believe and I think I'm getting to the saturation point where I don't care anymore. Just take in all the data points and see what happens in the next week or so.
