Celtics sign two more players (most likely to camp invite contracts)

The more the merrier.

USA TODAY Sports

The Celtics followed up their signing of Tim Frazier with a couple more free agent signings.

HOOP365 Boston Celtics sign Rodney McGruder and Christian Watford

The Boston Celtics today signed Rodney McGruder and Christian Watford to one year contracts. The levels of guarantee are not yet known, but are expected to be either nominal or nil. Watford, a jumpshooting combo forward, attended summer league this year with both the Detroit Pistons and Golden State Warriors, averaging 8.5 points in two games for Detroit. He has spent the one year of his professional career thus far in Israel. McGruder meanwhile did not appear in summer league for anybody, yet last year spent some time with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 6’4 off-guard is also only one year into a professional career, spending the bulk of his first campaign in Hungary with Atomeromu, averaging 14.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in 27 minutes a contest.

Reports: Celtics Sign Penn State’s Tim Frazier, Two Others To Camp Roster | Boston Celtics | NESN.com

The reported additions of Frazier, McGruder and Watford would give the Celtics the offseason maximum 20 players on their roster. The Celtics can only carry 15 players into the season.

The guess here is that these players are on non-guaranteed contracts that are good for a training camp appearance.  It is possible that they'll surprise and find their way onto the 15 man roster (like Greg Stiemsma did a few years back) but more than likely these are guys that will be shipped off to Maine in the Fall so the Celtics can keep a close eye on them.
