Source says Celtics have waived Christian Watford to formally drop to league max of 20 players following Cleveland deal.
— Chris Forsberg (@ESPNForsberg) September 26, 2014
Another non-guaranteed camp invite bites the dust and as Forsberg notes, Watford wasn't the first and won't be the last to get the axe:
Additional moves still need to occur in order to open another spot to sign Evan Turner before the start of training camp on Monday.
Watford was one of three camp invites -- Tim Frazier and Rodney McGruder the others -- signed by Boston last month. The trio were more likely to land with the Maine Red Claws of the D-League as affiliated players than compete for a spot on Boston's overcrowded roster.
Sans Turner, the roster stands at twenty with McGruder, Frazier, John Lucas III, Dwight Powell, Malcolm Thomas, and Erik Murphy. Thirty-one-year-old Lucas III seems the most likely to get waived before Tuesday's deadline to make room for Turner because of his age and Boston's PG depth, unless Ainge can come up with another magic trick by turning nothing into something. Anybody else picture Danny diving into a pool of 2nd round draft picks like Scrooge McDuck into gold coins?
