After waiving the recently acquired Chris Douglas-Roberts, the Celtics have an open roster spot that they may be looking to fill with rookie sharpshooter Andre Dawkins. ESPN's Marc Stein has been told that Boston is expected to meet with Dawkins this week to get to know him better, as they consider him an option to bring in on a 10-day contract.
On my way out of town: ESPN sources say Celtics bringing Sioux Falls sharpshooter Andre Dawkins to Boston this week with view to a 10-day
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) January 19, 2015
Dawkins had a cup of coffee with the Miami Heat this season, appearing in 4 games before being waived two weeks ago. Since then he has returned to Miami's D-League affiliate and has become a key part of the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Dawkins is averaging 24 points per game and shooting 54 percent from beyond the arc for the Skyforce. Among the highlights that have helped him stand out in the D-League is when he erupted for 42 points in a game last month, while draining 12 of 15 shots from three-point range.
For a Celtics team that could use a bit more outside shooting from their backcourt, Dawkins would be an intriguing option to take for a test run.
