Report: Kings not interested in trading DeMarcus Cousins

Shocker.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

You kinda knew this would be coming.  The same cycle of rumors that we've come to expect each offseason.  First there was the rumor that the Celtics are once again interested in trading for DeMarcus Cousins.  There was even some playful banter between Thomas and Cousins (in theory squashing the notion that there's animosity between them). Now comes the retort from the Kings side that they aren't actually interested in trading him.

Sources: Kings not interested in trading Cousins to Celtics | CSN Bay Area

The Kings want to make a playoff run next season with DeMarcus Cousins as the centerpiece of the franchise, league sources told CSNCalifornia.com.

So basically the same kind of reports that we heard all last offseason about Rajon Rondo.  Though given how that turned out for the Mavs, I'm not sure it is the best example.  Then again, given Cousins' personality, maybe it is after all.

The Kings probably don't want to trade Cousins.  It isn't likely that they'll be able to get equal value for him and any package (in particular any package from the Celtics) isn't likely to get them immediately closer to making the playoffs.

But if DeMarcus decides that he wants to play elsewhere, all he has to do is make that clear and the Kings will almost have to find the best value they can for him.  Which is where the Celtics (and other teams that are sure to be interested in him) come in.

It is a long offseason and there will be many more reports and rumors like this.  Enjoy!
